Beautifully said. I love this car metaphor and all the examples related to it. There is definitely a cost to worrying about situations that may or may not even happen, or if they do happen they don't unfold the way we expect.
I know in the times that I mentally rehearse a conversation with somebody, when I actually talk to them, the conversation doesn't go at all as I planned. All of that overthinking for nothing.
I agree with you it is better to just be present and navigate the situation around you as opposed to the situation in some hypothetical future possibility.

The overthinking for me originated exactly there. When I realized this for the first time, it stunned me. I got a nice moment of reflection as it came across my radar again with your post.
