I don't want to undermine the points you are making here, but I think there is more to love than that, and you actually can be in love with someone else and their qualities that nourish your love for them. Relationship is not just about the feelings you generate for yourself, in my opinion, it's also about how you make the other person feel and how they make you feel. You generate each others feelings.
Of course one should not make all the love you can feel depending on one specific person, but I think there are external qualities in the other person you actually fall in love with.
