That really is a powerful way to look at it. Best self and truest self should be the same thing. Otherwise, it just feels like putting on a mask. Living from that mindset must feel freeing. It’s simple but makes such a big difference. I love that perspective!

It is freeing @Jonathan Matei . It also takes time and energy to cultivate that perspective, it doesn’t just happen by itself. 😊

Yes Tamy, that's when the role of a mentor or guide becomes significant.

Left to ourselves, it could take a lifetime (lifetimes) to arrive at that realization.

If we're lucky to have the grace of a Guru, the process can be accelerated a bit.

But even for us to have such an encounter with a Guru, there needs to be a trigger, a seeking -- and it always comes from within, often disguised as pain.

Yeah, that makes sense. It takes real effort to see things that way. It’s not just a switch you flip overnight. But once you do, it changes everything. It’s worth putting in the time. Feels like real freedom!

And once you "see" and "feel" that freedom, there's no going back.

You can't "unsee" it :)

Well said, Jonathan.

Best self and truest self should be the same thing -- sounds like a natural way to be, isn't it?

Apparently not for a lot of us.

It is so simple that the mind doesn't get it -- for the mind, everything has to be complex .

The "evolved" mind has a natural tendency to mask us from our true selves.

All it takes is an instant to see it.

But it could take a lifetime to arrive at that instant.

Thanks for stopping by!

Beautiful reflection, Guru. We are so evolved that now we need to ‘De-volve’ the mind LOL

Have you ever felt like you’re always trying to prove yourself? I really like this! That part about sitting in imperfection and still feeling whole really hits. And the idea of not having to prove your worth through accomplishments—so good.

It’s a great reminder to slow down and just be instead of always trying to do more. The way you talk about being your truest self instead of just the “best version” is something a lot of people need to hear. Looking forward to reading more!

Tamy, what a beautiful post. I’ve learned the power of the pause (as I call it) within the last 6 months or so. It’s been quite the journey to be able to shift to (and see!) the true me, and it’s been the best thing I’ve ever done. Thank you for sharing your stories with us. They are so powerful 💗 Namaste 🙏✨

True freedom starts with the power of the pause.

When the mind is silent, it creates a space -- that space is the truest taste of liberation.

Thanks for stopping by, Lavender!

The reframe from Best Self to Truest Self is so simple yet so powerful. The greatest YOU that you want to be is also the Truest You that you want to be - otherwise how do you know if you're just faking it?

Love this

How beautifully you crafted your thoughts 👏🏻👏🏻

But Tamy,

If no one was watching would I still make the same choices - yes, but I don't think this is my truest self,I try to be honest with myself but in my case

I̶f̶ n̶o̶-̶o̶n̶e̶ w̶a̶s̶ w̶a̶t̶c̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ if conditions were different I would have been different. I will be that 'different' it's just journey has elongated.

You’re right, Kanishk, playing hypotheticals by asking ‘IF’ is a game that takes us down a slippery slope.

After all - we are as we are and all the causes and conditions of our path have brought us to be exactly as we are in this moment. And from this moment we get agency in how to proceed into the next moment. 😁

Dear Tamy, I really enjoyed this honest, raw, and vulnerable piece! Thank you for sharing it and inspiring others that change is always possible. You also perfectly described how we often imagine that people deemed successful by societal standards do not have any emotional problems or issues.

Yet, you can be very successful in medicine, business, or society and still have never learned how to manage your emotions.
